Asphalt 9 is the arcade racer I'd point to if Mario Kart wasn't already sitting on the system as a paid game most people already own. The free content is substantial, cars look sharp even in handheld mode, and the drift-heavy arcade handling is immediately readable. Energy timers gate how much you can play in a single sitting, which is the oldest free-to-play trick in the book and still an annoying one. I burned through a weekend's worth of events before hitting a wall that clearly wanted my money. Fine for short bursts. Not built to be your only racing game.

Asphalt 9: Legends is a flashy, high-speed arcade racer where you launch supercars off ramps, smash through shortcuts, and chain nitro boosts in seconds-long bursts. It earns a mid-list spot because the content volume is substantial—over 80 licensed cars and 70+ tracks—and the driving is instantly approachable for newcomers. For quick, low-stress races, it's hard to beat. The downside is aggressive mobile-style monetization and upgrade systems that heavily favor paying players in competitive modes. Unlocking top-tier cars without paying can take months of daily grinding. It's best for casual, single-player fun and car collecting rather than serious ranked racing.
