Zombie Army 4: Dead War

The four-player co-op structure holds up, the mission variety is decent, and the X-ray kill cam never quite gets old. I would put it just behind Back 4 Blood in terms of overall co-op quality and slightly above World War Z for horror atmosphere purely because the supernatural Wehrmacht enemies land differently than standard undead. If you are building a ranked wishlist rather than just buying one game, this one belongs on the radar once you have worked through the higher-ranked entries.

Zombie Army 4 is the older sibling to Sniper Elite: Resistance on this list, sharing developer DNA and a similar emphasis on methodical shooting over run-and-gun chaos. The addition of horde mode alongside the campaign gives four-player groups a bit more flexibility in how they spend a session. It did not crack the top ten because it is showing its age against 2024 and 2025 entries, and Sniper Elite: Resistance largely supersedes it as the Rebellion pick for tactical-minded squads. Still, for groups who want accessible campaign co-op at a lower price point, this one is worth a look when it hits a sale.

Zombie Army 4 knows exactly what it is and never pretends otherwise. Nazi zombies, pulpy horror voiceover, and a shooting loop that's looser than Sniper Elite 5's but a lot sillier. I booted this up on a random Tuesday expecting ten minutes and stayed for an hour because the co-op banter between my squad kept escalating. It's from the same studio as Sniper Elite, and you can feel the shared DNA in the level design, even if the precision here takes a back seat to spectacle. Four-player co-op is where it earns its spot, since solo play loses a lot of the chaos that makes it fun. Not essential, but a genuinely good time.

Four-player campaign co-op against Nazi zombies sounds like it should be terrifying and instead feels like a greatest-hits package of pulpy action tropes. The occult presentation is fun, the X-ray kill shots remain satisfying, and it runs perfectly well via backward compatibility on PS5. The horror qualification is the sticking point. This is campy action that happens to feature undead enemies, and in a list where horror atmosphere carries significant weight, that distinction matters. If your group just wants something easy to get into and cooperative, it is a solid option. Just do not expect it to scare anyone.
