The Definitive Edition is the version to play, and I am picking it over Dawn of War III on purpose. The 2004 design is what the series is remembered for. You capture strategic points for requisition and power, and instead of massing hundreds of units you keep a handful of squads alive, pulling wounded ones back to reinforce. I am not a Warhammer 40,000 lore person, and the Blood Ravens campaign still worked on me. The AI and pathfinding show their age. Skirmishes are quick. Retreating a half-dead squad at the right moment still feels like winning the fight.
