Amnesia: Collection

Amnesia: Collection bundles three games together, and only one of them is essential. The Dark Descent is still a masterclass in vulnerability horror, no combat, a sanity meter that punishes you for looking directly at monsters, and puzzles that force you into the dark on purpose. I played enough of the sequel and the DLC to remember why they get mentioned less, then moved on the way I move on from most cozy games after the first hour, except here it wasn't boredom, it was self-preservation. The Switch version runs fine. Nothing flashy, just stable. It ranks lower on this list because the package is uneven rather than because the best entry is weak. If you only ever play one Amnesia game, make it the first one and don't feel bad about skipping the rest.
