Fallout 76

Fallout 76 launched to a genuinely bad reputation. I stayed away for years because of it. Coming back for this list, Appalachia has quietly become one of the better shared-world sandboxes on Xbox, camps and public events doing a lot of the work that a scripted campaign usually would. You can wander the wasteland solo just fine, but team up for a public event and the game clicks into something closer to a live co-op raid. Loot and building systems give a reason to keep logging in beyond a single session. It's still a Bethesda world, so expect some jank in the traversal and combat feel. If your only memory of this game is 2018, it's worth a second look now.

Fallout 76 is a survival game in the way that a knife is a kitchen tool: technically accurate, but you are probably reaching for something else most of the time. The scavenging is real, the CAMP building works, food and aid management matters in the early hours. But the RPG-shooter identity takes over quickly, and for a strict survival recommendation it sits further down the list than its PS Plus value alone would suggest. If you already want a Fallout experience and the survival layer sounds like a bonus rather than the point, it is worth downloading. If the survival systems are what you are actually after, start higher on this list and come back to this one later.

Fallout 76 had a rough launch and still carries that reputation longer than it probably deserves. The current version is a functional shared-world RPG with a large map, CAMP building, public events, and enough lore to keep a Fallout fan busy for weeks. I found myself enjoying the free-roam more than the structured content. The multiplayer feels optional in a way that keeps it off the main list, because you can spend hours wandering Appalachia barely interacting with another player. For Fallout fans specifically, that might actually be fine.
