A friend in my LAN group has genuinely lost an entire weekend to taming a single Rex in ARK, which tells you everything about the time commitment this game still demands. Hunger, crafting, taming, and constant environmental threat are all present in serious depth, more than almost anything else considered for this list. It didn't crack the ranked ten because of rougher technical edges and the kind of grind that assumes you have unlimited hours, plus server churn that's made the online side less stable lately. Worth it for scale chasers. Go in knowing it will eat your weekends the way it ate his.

ARK is the most demanding game on this list in every sense. Demanding of your time, your patience with glitches, and your group's willingness to invest thirty hours before the taming and tribe play really opens up. I find that kind of commitment harder to justify now than I did ten years ago. But for a group that can genuinely commit to a long server campaign, there is nothing else on PS5 that matches the scale of building a fortified base while a tribe of raptors patrols the perimeter. Survival Ascended is the version to play on PS5 over the original. The polish is uneven but it is meaningfully better than where the series was on last gen.
ARK is the game I describe to people as a commitment rather than a hobby. Taming a high-level dinosaur takes real time, building a proper base takes longer, and doing either of those things while also fending off other players on a PvP server is genuinely exhausting in a way that can feel rewarding or punishing depending on the day. The Unreal Engine 5 rebuild gives Survival Ascended a visual upgrade that looks genuinely impressive on a QD-OLED, but the performance can be inconsistent in ways the old version also suffered from. If you have a dedicated tribe of three or four people who are ready to commit to a server, this is one of the deepest open-world co-op loops on PS5. Solo play is a different conversation entirely.
