Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is still one of the best arguments for visual world design in the genre. The guiding wind mechanic sounds like a small thing. In practice it completely changes how you relate to the landscape, because you are always moving toward something rather than staring at a minimap. I played this on a QD-OLED and the contrast between black bamboo forests and golden light is genuinely something. It ranks below Yotei because that game builds on this one, not because Tsushima has gotten worse. If you have not played either, Yotei is the current recommendation. If you played Yotei first and want more of the same, come back to Tsushima without hesitation.

In 1274, the Mongol army invaded Japan, their first stop: Tsushima Island. In Ghost of Tsushima, you play as a battered samurai, fighting back against overwhelming odds. This game contains frequent depictions of extreme violence to human characters. During a number of missions, characters can be seen being decapitated and dismembered. In these instances, strong blood and gore effects are present on impact of the attack. The bodies then slump to the floor and remain there. This game also contains depictions of violence towards defenceless human characters. In these instances, characters are often restrained then beaten/killed. The most pertinent example of this is when an enemy solider is tied to a wooden stake and then burnt to death. He can be seen screaming in pain as his body and clothes catch alight. He then slumps down as his body burns.
