Quake II lives in the same memory drawer as Unreal Tournament for me, from the era when the best game at a LAN party was whichever one ran on the weakest machine in the room. The remaster keeps the run-and-gun feel and adds modern polish, and it comes with the expansions plus a newer campaign. The level design is the old kind, with key hunts and backtracking that modern shooters have mostly cut. It is not a first recommendation. If you like old-school shooting, it is the cleanest option on the service.

Overview
About Quake II
Quake II is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Activision. It is not a direct sequel to Quake, id decided to revert to an existing trademark when they were unable to agree on a new name that did not violate another company's trademark.
Story setup
Humanity is locked in a desperate war against the Strogg, a merciless alien race of cyborgs who convert the living into machines of war. In a bold gambit to end the conflict, Earth launches a full invasion of the enemy homeworld, Stroggos. The assault falls apart on arrival, and a lone marine crash-lands as the only survivor of his squad, stranded deep in hostile territory. Cut off and alone, he must fight through the Strogg's sprawling industrial city, striking at their defenses and war effort to cripple the alien threat.
