Don't Starve Together hides one of the harshest survival systems on this list behind hand-drawn charm, and the seasonal threat curve means the game you started in autumn is not the game you're playing by winter. It's a purist's pick. The multiplayer works best with people who already know the systems, because there's little hand-holding for newcomers joining mid-run. If you want survival mechanics with real teeth and don't mind dying constantly while you learn them, this earns its spot near the top of the specialist tier.
