Zombies alone do not make a survival game for me. Resource upkeep does, and State of Decay 2 is built on it. You manage a community of survivors, keep morale up, ration supplies, send people out to scavenge, and defend a base where a lost companion stays lost. Permadeath makes the losses sting. That is why the Juggernaut Edition qualifies on a list that is not about zombies. The action is the framing, not the point, and the framing is why it lands last. It earns its place by being about upkeep, not undead.

State of Decay 2 is the survival sandbox where your survivors can actually die for good, and in co-op that stings in a more social way. Up to four play online, and the loop of scavenging, defending a base, and keeping a community fed works well with a partner covering your back. I like it best with one patient friend and a free two-hour block, not a full squad. It missed the top ten because the rough edges show next to Grounded and Deep Rock, and the progression asks for regular evenings. Still dependable for zombie fans on console, PC, or cloud.
State of Decay 2 scratches an itch none of the harder sandboxes do: managing a whole community instead of just yourself. Scavenging runs feel tense because permadeath is real, and losing a survivor you've leveled up for hours actually stings. It's more structured than DayZ and less punishing than Rust, closer in spirit to a management sim wearing a zombie survival coat. The co-op could be tighter. Hosting issues and occasional desync have been reported often enough that it's worth going in with reasonable expectations. Still, for a group that wants zombie survival without full open-world PvP hostility, this remains one of Xbox's most dependable options.
