Gears of War: Reloaded rebuilds the original game for modern hardware, and its split-screen co-op campaign still has that heavy, shoulder-first feel. It is a remaster of the first game, not the newest mainline entry, so Gears 5 won the slot for a concrete reason: more local content, including Horde and a much bigger campaign. My own pick for a Gears night stays Gears 5. Series newcomers who want a shorter, cleaner introduction should start here. Two players only, and the same mature rating applies.

I booted this straight after a Gears 5 session to see what had changed, and the contrast is the whole appeal. No skiff, no hub zones. Just Marcus Fenix, a corridor, and a Lancer with a chainsaw bayonet. Active Reload still gives every fight a tiny rhythm test, and the cleaned-up visuals make old locations look better than I remembered. But the story is thinner and the enemies less varied than in Gears 5, which is why it landed on the honorable list. Pick it if you want a tighter, shorter campaign.
I finish campaigns before I touch multiplayer, always have, going back to my Call of Duty days. Gears of War: Reloaded gave me an excuse to redo that ritual with better lighting and a locked 60fps. The two-player split-screen campaign is basically unchanged from the original, nostalgic for some, a missed opportunity for others depending on how much modernizing you wanted. Nothing revolutionary here. Versus modes split fine too, though the mode list runs thinner than Gears 5's. It lands here rather than higher because it's mostly a known quantity in new clothes. For Xbox veterans who skipped the remaster wave, that known quantity is still worth the price of entry.
