About Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a side-scrolling beat 'em up featuring 15 playable Marvel heroes. Designed in the style of classic 1990s arcade brawlers, the game allows players to switch between two characters mid-battle using the Cosmic Swap mechanic. Each hero brings unique abilities and team-up attacks, with additional upgrades and rewards becoming available as players progress.

Story setup

The game is set during a large-scale assault across the galaxy led by Annihilus and the Annihilation Wave, a force that threatens countless worlds. As the conflict spreads, heroes from Earth and beyond—including Nova, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Phyla-Vell, and Captain America—are drawn into a wider effort to stop the invasion. The story follows their attempts to contain the destruction and confront Annihilus before the balance of the universe is lost.

Best Local Multiplayer Games on Xbox 2026

Marvel Cosmic Invasion showed up in 2026 doing exactly what Shredder's Revenge and Streets of Rage already do well, four-player drop-in brawling with a recognizable cast, and it does it competently rather than exceptionally. I tried it with three friends for an evening. It played fine. Drop-in co-op meant a fourth player joined mid-stage without any fuss, no explanation needed. It just doesn't bring anything the two brawlers ranked above it haven't already covered, and the content feels thin this early after launch. Worth watching if you specifically want new Marvel characters at your game night, but not urgent.
