When my group plays online from our own homes, we are rarely on the same machine. Someone has the Xbox Series X, someone is on PS5, and someone is on a laptop that was never built for games. Game Pass is full of great multiplayer, but most of it means nothing if half your friends cannot join the lobby. This list sorts the games that actually solve that problem from the ones that only look like they do.
I scored each game on crossplay scope, multiplayer fun, Game Pass value, onboarding, and longevity. Crossplay weighed the most, followed by multiplayer fun, with the other three making up the rest.
For the full picture on Game Pass, see our Best Game Pass Games to Play Right Now guide. This article focuses on which games let friends on different platforms play together.
Quick Picks
Best for any mix of platforms: Minecraft
Best for long social sessions: Sea of Thieves: 2026 Edition
Best for PvP and Zombies nights: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Best for loot-driven parties: Diablo IV
Best for low-stress laughs: Human Fall Flat
The Top 10 Crossplay Games on Game Pass
Ten games, ordered by how well they bring a split-platform group into one lobby. The first three are close, and everything after them trades some reach for a different kind of night.
The top three was a close call for me, because I would happily open any of them on a Friday night. Minecraft takes first because it works on everything. Bedrock crossplay covers Xbox, PC, PlayStation, Switch and mobile, so nobody gets left out of the invite. Someone in my group always joins from a laptop that was never meant for games, and it still runs. Survival, a creative build, or a Realm that stays alive between sessions all work, and it never gets boring. The weak spot is the first hour for newcomers, who get very little hand-holding. Everyone also needs a Microsoft account.

We have put more hours into this one lately than anything else on the list. Picture four of us on a galleon, one on the wheel, one up in the crow's nest, and someone in the hold bailing water after a bad turn into a reef. Crossplay across Xbox, PC and PS5 means nobody buys a new console to join the crew. Being pirates together is simply fun. Newcomers need a session or two to learn the map table and the sails, and that early fumbling is the main reason it sits behind Minecraft.

I did what I always do and finished the campaign before touching multiplayer, so I arrived online a few levels behind everyone who skipped it. Old habit. What lifts Black Ops 6 this high is the party system: Xbox, PC and PlayStation friends land in one lobby, in standard multiplayer or in round-based Zombies. Zombies is the gentler way to get a mixed group going without a stranger flattening you every ten seconds. The real caution is input. PC players on a mouse can out-aim a controller, and crossplay can be switched off if that bothers your group. Joining is fast, at least.

I started Diablo IV on my own and drifted away before the end, so that is the honest context for this ranking. Loot grinding feels lonely when nobody else cares about the next legendary. A party changes that. Four players across Xbox, PC and PlayStation can group up, and world bosses are far more fun with a crowd. Seasons give a group a reason to return together. Late joiners will feel behind on gear, though, and the slow opening act asks for patience from everyone.

You are shrunk to the size of an ant and dropped in a suburban backyard. Sounds like a gimmick. Then a wolf spider walks toward your half-built base and four people start shouting different plans. Grounded covers Xbox, PC, PS5 and Switch, a wider net than most survival games on Game Pass, and it is pure co-op, so nobody wins the night by being sharper with a gun. I like that I can drop in for an hour of base building and still feel I moved forward. The early scavenging for grass planks and water is a slog before better recipes unlock.

No Man's Sky is the one on this list where a single evening never feels like enough. I like big worlds I can put down and return to, and a shared base in a galaxy that never runs out of planets suits that habit. Xbox, PC and PlayStation players can party up. Switch sits outside the standard crossplay pool, so check before you invite that friend. The first hours are slow, heavy on inventory and menus, and the group works best when one person already knows them and talks the others through. Years of free updates have made it far more generous than it was at launch.

Tribute Games made Shredder's Revenge, and the same arcade instincts show up here: big sprites, punchy hits, and a screen that stays readable when several heroes and a pile of enemies crowd in. Crossplay reaches Xbox, PC, PlayStation and Switch, which is unusually wide for a game this size. The controls are the kind my wife, who needs a game to explain itself in seconds, would accept without a tutorial. You finish it across a few evenings. Once the credits roll, a crew has little reason to come back, and that is why it sits lower than the survival games above.

If you are looking for competitive and party lobbies that do not depend on crossplay, check out our Best Multiplayer Games on Game Pass guide.
Human Fall Flat shares a mental drawer with Overcooked from our LAN nights, because both turn incompetence into the main event. Your wobbly character grabs, climbs and drags things across physics puzzles, and half the fun is watching a friend launch themselves off a ledge by accident. It is light enough for the non-gaming laptops in my group. Crossplay spans Xbox, PC, PlayStation and Switch, so the invite list stays wide. Puzzle solutions can be vague, and a group can lose twenty minutes to a door nobody understands. Worth the lost time.

Check your group first. If anyone owns only a PS5, skip this entry. Forza Horizon 6 crosses only between Xbox and Windows PC, which is why it sits at nine on a list about reaching everyone. For groups that do fit, it is the easiest racing night on Game Pass. Convoys let friends cruise together, free-roam events drop you into races without menu diving, and arcade handling forgives mixed skill. Forza on Xbox has long been a habit of mine, and this is the one I would hand to a friend who has never raced online.

Fantasy is my favourite genre and I drop it quickly when it feels generic, so I went into Dragonwilds a little guarded. The RuneScape skill system saves it. Gathering, crafting and levelling in a survival loop gives a group something to grow together, and Xbox, PC, PS5 and Switch 2 can all join the same world. I have spent less time here than in anything above it, which fits the ranking: it is newer and has a shorter track record. Give it a try if your crew has already worn out Grounded.

Honorable Mentions
These five came close to the cut, and each one has a clear reason it landed outside the ten.
Left 4 Dead 2 is the benchmark my LAN group still measures zombie co-op against, so I came to World War Z: Aftermath with high expectations. The swarm is the draw. Hundreds of zombies pile up into living towers, and four players on PC, PlayStation and Xbox can fight them together. Crossplay is broader than several games in the top ten. It missed the top ten because the missions start repeating their shape after a few nights, not because of crossplay. If your group already burned through Left 4 Dead 2, give it a night.
Helldivers 2 is the headset game my group keeps going back to, and Space Marine 2 scratches a related itch with chainswords instead of Stratagems. Three players take on Operations across Xbox, PC and PlayStation, and the combat is a heavy, satisfying crunch that feels more premium than most live-service shooters. Mission variety is limited, though, and the class loadouts take a few sessions to understand. That steeper onboarding kept it outside the ten. Warhammer fans will not care, and they should install it tonight.
13. Rematch
81%EA FC is strictly a couch game in my house these days, so I was curious whether a football game could work as online team play. REMATCH puts you in control of a single player rather than the whole squad, which turns every match into a conversation about who is covering the back post. Crossplay across Xbox, PC and PlayStation keeps lobbies healthy. The matches are short and readable, and the rules need almost no explaining. It stays outside the ten because it needs a regular team to shine. Played with strangers, it loses most of its charm.
With an Xbox Series X and a PS5 under the same TV, the first thing I check is which friends I can actually invite. Halo Infinite answers only for Xbox and PC. Inside that pairing it is a good evening: the grappling hook makes arenas feel more vertical than they look, and campaign co-op gives a few friends something to do after the matches. Add one PlayStation player and the plan collapses. That is the reason it sits below the wider games, and why it is an honorable mention rather than a pick.
Deep Rock Galactic is probably the best pure co-op game on Game Pass, which made leaving it out of the ten hurt. Four dwarves dig through procedural caves, each class covers a job, and you feel a missing Scout the moment the team needs to reach a high vein. When my Helldivers 2 group wants a more structured night, this is where we go. The catch is the crossplay pool. Xbox and Microsoft Store PC players can join each other, but Steam is a separate population, so many mixed groups cannot. Check where your friends installed it first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the crossplay questions that come up most when a group is split across consoles and PC.
Can PlayStation players join my Game Pass crossplay games?
In many cases, yes. Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Diablo IV and Grounded all reach PlayStation. Forza Horizon 6 and Halo Infinite stay between Xbox and PC, so check each game's crossplay scope before you send invites.
Does everyone in the group need Game Pass?
No. Game Pass only covers the copy on your own Xbox or PC. A friend on PlayStation or Switch needs to own the game on that platform, and then you can play together.
Do I need extra accounts for crossplay to work?
Usually, yes. Minecraft wants a Microsoft account, Call of Duty uses an Activision account, and Diablo IV runs through Battle.net. Link everything before game night so nobody is stuck on a login screen while the rest of the group waits.
Is crossplay fair between controller and mouse players?
It depends on the game. In competitive shooters like Black Ops 6, mouse players on PC can have an aiming edge, and the game lets you switch crossplay off. In co-op games like Grounded or Sea of Thieves, the difference barely matters.
Will these games stay on Game Pass?
Not necessarily. The catalog rotates, and a title can leave with little notice. Everything here was available at the time of writing, so check the game's store page before you tell your friends to install it.
Conclusion
Minecraft, Sea of Thieves and Black Ops 6 lead because almost any mix of consoles and PCs can join the same lobby, while the lower picks trade some of that reach for a better fit with specific groups. Check where your friends play before you pick.
