F-Zero 99 is what happens when you take Tetris 99's battle royale formula and point it at a racing genre with zero mercy for mistakes. Ninety-nine racers, one track, and a single wrong boost pad sends you tumbling out of contention permanently, no rubber-banding to save you. I like this more than I expected to for a game I almost skipped, mostly because it scratches the same competitive itch Need for Speed used to for me, just distilled into three-minute rounds. It's included with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, so there's no real barrier to trying it. The skill gap is steep, and casual players will get lapped in the first few sessions. Worth it if arcade racing purity matters more to you than winning.

Overview
About F-Zero 99
A battle royale game featuring tracks from the original F-Zero for Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
Line up with 98 other F-Zero machines and race to the finish in this thrilling take on the original Super NES game. Keep an eye on your power meter as you boost and bash, because speed is just as important as survival. Defend yourself with a Spin Attack and collect Super Sparks to breeze past the competition on the elevated Skyway.
Outpace and outlive your opponents in rotating modes
The core F-Zero 99 mode is just one way to race at breakneck speeds. Mini Prix and Grand Prix modes appear on a set schedule and challenge you to compete and qualify in a series of races. Team Battle and the extra-tough Pro Tracks mode rotate throughout the day. Prepare yourself in Practice Mode and race against your ghost.
