Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is the newest game on this list, and I went in expecting a routine return to the Prime formula rather than a real evolution. Docked on my living room OLED, the scanning-and-exploring loop still holds, working a room methodically, tagging lore, backtracking once a new beam upgrade opens a locked door. It's slower and more deliberate than Dread, which won't suit anyone chasing the 2D game's constant momentum. First-person adventure is a genre Nintendo barely touches otherwise. This fills a gap nothing else on Switch does. It's too new to have the track record of the games ranked above it, but if Prime is your Metroid, this is a real showcase for the hardware.
